The Tour de France spinned into action last Saturday. And we've got a few bike-themed flicks to kick start the
hoopla. But first, a little history on the world's most popular bicycle
race...
The
104-year-old Tour de France was the brainchild of a newspaper
journalist named Georges Lefevre. He pitched his idea to the editor of L'Auto,
Henri Desgrange, at a Parisian restaurant called Zimmer. Lefevre
convinced Desgrange that the newspaper's circulation would grow if they
sponsored France's largest bike race ever. Thus the birth of the Tour.
Today, the now-famous Zimmer restaurant has been replaced by a TGI
Fridays. The French gotta love that, huh?
